EVENTS / Club time trial 17 May
« on: May 15, 2012, 08:10:30 pm »
The time trial on Thursday will begin at 19:15 this is a change of start time.

The summer is slow in arriving and as the nights are not getting much lighter it is safer to start earlier and so finish earlier.

Some riders have small lights, it makes you visible to car drivers about 15 seconds earlier and are well worth getting (and using).

The latest weather forecast is dry but chilly.

Great Missenden at 19:15

TRAINING / Re: Help for a Newcomer!
« on: May 02, 2012, 07:06:04 pm »
Dear Newbie,
There are several questions you ask.

Q. Is it a good race for your first triathlon?

A. Yes and No!

Yes because it is friendly and of a non standard distance. It is much cheaper than most races. Also as the order of disciplines  is different from the norm you do not have to cope with running after the bike.

No; because it is open water (sharks etc, perhaps a bit cold for them!) and the order is disciplines is different so will not help you with running after the cycle. Also as it is a mass start you can see where you are in the field. Usually towards the rear for novices, which can be disconcerting. Just go at your own pace and enjoy it, think of the donuts at the end.

Q. Will you cope with the swim?

A. No one has drowned yet. Only you know if you can do the distance in open water, which will be cold (wet suits compulsory). Doing the distance is one thing, but getting battered by starting too near the front is another. Start at the rear and if you can work through the field do, if you can't relax, do not waste energy trying to swim 30secs faster.

Q. Are there any other tips.

A. I notice your posting was after 10 at night..my God that is well past my bedtime. Sleep a lot, eat a lot,  and DO NOT over train.
The race is competitive at the front (I never knew this until I stopped racing and took up watching), but does that matter for your first event?

Enjoy it.

 :( :(

The first evening time trials are approaching, they are at Black Park, on a lapped route.

Any member is welcome to come along

I have attached a map.

We meet at The Stag pub which is on the corner of Rowley Lane and Wexham Street.

The time trial course is as follows

Start on Rowley Lane (about 100 yards from the junction with Wexham Street)

Head to the far end of Rowley Lane to the junction with A412 Uxbridge Road. Turn Left.

Go to the roundabout and take the first exit, Pinewood Road. (Pass Pinewood Studios)

Follow this to its very end (It has become Fulmer Common Road) and turn left.

This is will become  Wexham Street .

Carry on down to Rowley Lane and turn left.

Follow the same route for the second lap as far as Pinewood Studios

About half a mile after Pinewood studios turn left into Blackpark Road, where the finish is.

The route is about 9.6 miles. >:(

This is a long running event organised, extremely well, by East London Triathletes.

It is being held on Sunday 29 April. Distances are approx 5 / 20 / 3 miles

It has moved about and is currently based at Redbridge Cycle Track. The track is similar to Hillingdon, but harder and there is a stinging little hill which you have to run up 5 times and cycle up 20 times. These hills make it a very hard early season event.

I have done it numerous times and thoroughly recommend it.
